WTF did I just watch? This isnt the Neil I remember. It felt like watching a low quality horror sci fi flick. Every Neil short movie and movie shows all the violence and chaos but this just skips over everything. The acting was good but this just isnt it. Very disappointing.
Well, that was pretty weak, i even dont know what to say here. The idea itself is a mixture of several ideas from different sources, like F. E. A. R. Videogame, Barker's Jericho videogame... also i smell some Cosmatos "Beyond The Black Rainbow" inspiration here, because the main villain is played by brilliant Michael J Rogers, with the same thing that he runs some kind of weird medical clinic/research center... The visuals and cinematography are generic as hell, bland, uninspiring like at all, i was hoping to see Neil's brutal tech prop thingie going on here (for which he is famous for in previous movies) but here it was bland and generic too... Its totally dissapointing. I mean, there is so much tech/techno horrors which u can grab something from, to be inspired and built something unique and visually mindblowing over it... like Gordon's "From Beyond" or even Anderson's "Event Horizon" u name it... but no, this movie is such a generic and uninspiring lazy job, so well screw Neil and his stuff okay, now we see the real deal, one hit "wonder" he is. Good bye.
You'll know it's bad when they enter a VR world in someone's mind. Monster wasn't very scary. Poor Neil, guy needs a hit and this ain't it.
This film start with a woman "Carly" yelling at her mother "Angela", and she went into a house scene! As turnout, this film is about Carly need to save her mother in coma status from the possession from a demon! Entire film full of boring conversation, and annoying overuse scene! Such as, overuse of the walking scene, overuse of the searching scene, overuse of the staring scene, overuse of the arguing scene, overuse of the calling names scene, overuse of the hallucinate scene, overuse of the simulate scene, overuse of the talking on the phone scene, and overuse of the driving scene! Make the film unwatchable! At the end, Angela died, and Carly killed the demon possessed her! Carly visiting Angela's grave at the very end! That's it! Another disappointed film!
I think Neill Blomkamp should make video games instead of movies. I don't need to write a full review. This movie is evidence of that very fact. Video games make terrible movies, and vice verse. Dear Mr. Blomkamp, you're talented... I just think you need to redirect your energy from a movie to a video game. Try it. What's the worst that could happen?
Being a huge Blomkamp fan, I was excited to see what he would do as his next project. While this isn't his best work, it certainly isn't his worst. There were moments where the film is slow/dragged on, however it didn't bother me too much. Another thing I didn't like was how there were moments where I wish could've played out but instead it's the aftermath of something that happened. I definitely wanna rewatch it again to see if I missed anything but altogether I thought the film had a good story, acting, and effects. It was great to see another full length feature film from Blomkamp again.
Nah...couldn't have been...this was low budge messiness...rushed ideas, no vision and some silly dialogue....or better yet what I like to call "nothing talk"...it's almost as if he was contracted to make a movie to pay back the studio ??
I'll make this short. Horror is my life; whether it's movies, shows, games or books. Horror is my niche. A 4 is generous which sucks Bc I loved District 9, Elysium and Chappie. Where to start. The main protagonist was utterly trash and annoying. The cinematography was actually cool with the whole VR portrayal. The action was limited. One minor scare. The biggest thing which could have brought it to a 7 for me was the fact that he didn't include what could have constituted a wicked action scene with a Vatican Spec Op Unit; either a lack of budget or time, but regardless it will hurt reviews given time. A Redbox rental at best.
