Delicious

Loved this movie. It was as beautiful and sumptuous as a gourmet meal. The story kept me interested from beginning to end and was accompanied by some great cinematography, wonderful acting, appropriate soundtrack and intelligent writing. And the ending was a very satisfying one. I am not sure what else anyone would want in a movie of this sort. Oh, and there were no super hero's or car chases, another big plus. There was one reviewer who complained that the protagonist had a beard which apparently was rare for the 18th century. He seemed truly offended by that but I guess he didn't catch in the movie where the chef was criticized by one of the Duke's dinner guests for his beard so I am not even sure what the point of the reviewer was all about. Again if your cup of tea is fast action, wild car chases, aliens and super hero's this is not a movie for you but if you love a sweet beautiful story told and photographed exquisitely then give it a shot.

As an American view, the South of France and Sonoma county do not compare. We have seasons from Fall to Winter to Spring. What a time for such visualisations, from harvest to food to creations. The clarity captured by SOF is masterfully done. One does not need languages to follow, as text and script flow without disruption and feeling. Thank you to all that took part in this creation. The flow of the timeline and story marry a delicious story. French films, guarantee. A .................delicious .....film. There is no French film that is not reliable with the level and culture of this country, we love French cinema !!!

A nice idea placed apparently well in history as it seems the first restaurants indeed date back from before the French Revolution, and rather well filmed with beautiful scenes of the countryside and the auberge. The acting is also quite good although de Tronquedec diction reminds of some of his traits in the TV series Fais pas ci fais pas ca. Regrettably the story line is rather thick and the movie is unfortunately full of cliches and predictable situations (Even the evening pouring rain replaces the sunny weather on the day when the duke is first expected to eat at the restaurant ), including the unavoivable love story slowly developing, and of course with a happy end. What a pity.

How difficult can it be, to get just this simple little thing correct?! When will writers, producers and directors learn that no men in the 18'th century had facial hair?! No matter how long you search, you will never find a painting from that century, depicting a man with a beard. It was considered filthy. I was so looking forward to this, as I love everything from that time period. But, alas.

Delicious remains a film without stakes or intrigue. What is presented to us is an improbable reconstitution, to which we find it difficult to adhere as everything seems anachronistic. The only thing we find on the bread is that it is dripping with good conscience. The dish is bland and cold. It's a bit like watching a nice Gordon Ramsayt: it's quickly lost interest.

Such an intriguing movie! My 79-year-old father and I absolutely loved every second of this movie. We had to stop the movie several times so my dad could read the subtitles in a timely fashion, but the spoken French was beautiful to listen to as well. The plot was captivating, the acting phenomenal, the scenery lovely, and the music beautiful. We both want to watch this magnificent film again soon!

We have gotten into watching series and movies with food as a central part of the story, such as "Midnight Diner" and "Burnt". We tried "The Bear" but, in spite of being set in a sandwich shop it's basically about a horribly dysfunctional family with food only incidental to the story. "Delicious", set just before the French revolution meets all the necessities of a food movie, plus a beautiful setting with period costumes and even a dramatic confrontation that also pivots on food. Highly recommended!

I felt like each set was a like a masterpiece painting, down to placement, lighting, setting, everything. I don't normally watch subtitled movies, but this one caught me right away with it's visual splendor. Very charming movie.
