source: A Year from Now
To all the people calling this amateurish, this is a student film not a Hollywood production, it says SFA right on it - Stephen F. Austin University. The actors and entire crew are film school students - except Brad Maule. Taking that into context I think it was very well done and very well acted. It's wholesome and real and very enjoyable. The problem is the producers never should have put it out with big budget productions and reviewers judging it as such. It is an amateur production and taken as such it is very good. Honestly, IMO it's better than most of the cable channel Christmas stuff that gets made every year and the acting is far more real.
All the acting was terrible. The pacing incredibly slow. The music was intrusive and annoying. The characters were not likeable. It was an interesting concept, just executed very poorly.
Terrible acting , OTT Christmas music throughout. Not one character that made this worth watching. Each day, in the movie, is the passing of a year. In those seven years the same bedding was always on the bed, the same colours on the walls in each room, the same tissue box and flowers by the bed for the first four years at least. I like Christmas movies and so I tried to like this, but to no avail. Nobody managed to portray any emotion at any time. How do they manage to get funding for these movies ? I gave it a 2 that was overly generous. When I watch movies I expect to feel something for the characters. I felt nothing for anybody in this dross , from start to finish. Badly written, badly acted and not really a Christmas movie.
I can only assume that everyone in this movie was closely related to whoever financed this debacle. To say the acting is bad is like saying Star Wars is a bit popular. Avoid at all costs.
The movie is very unclear on its rules of how the time skipping works. As far i i could figure out, it is similar to the "click" movie without the main character trying to figure out what is happening. She just wonders around aimlessly enough though she is losing all this time. There is a hint that the journal given to her at the beginning has some sort of power but she never really uses it during the movie. It seems to be just a normal journal that she writes in during the year. I would think that after the second or time, she would consult the journal rather than walk into awkward situations. There is a theme that she is not treating time seriously so she does not deserve the extra time however after she changes, it does not stop or chage the process. In the end, the time jumping just stop for no reason. Definitely a unthought out idea. Should have worked longer on rhe script.
The idea is cute but it's just so bad. The dialog is bad, the acting is bad, the pacing is bad. It's so bad that I'm actually shocked that it's got a 5.1 rating.
Really loved the story and the theme of this movie. It reminds us of the importance of enjoying each moment with loved ones. I loved the East Texas setting. I just wish the acting would have been better.
This is a nice little indy movie with a good feeling and an interesting twist on some well-used ideas. There were a few slow spots where there was far too much watching the main character be introspective while standard Christmas music played. But on the whole, it was a cute, watchable Christmas movie.
This movie has very relatable characters and a story with a unique twist. The acting is acceptable. Good music. Worth a watch. Definitely a Netflix and chill movie.
