Mike Tyson vs José Ribalta: The 10-Round War That Ended in a TKO Mike Tyson vs José Ribalta was a heavyweight battle that showed exactly why the young Tyson was becoming one of boxing’s most feared fighters. At just 20 years old, Mike Tyson entered the ring against the much taller José Ribalta in Atlantic City on August 17, 1986. Ribalta had the size and reach to create problems, and his strategy was clear: keep Tyson on the outside, control the distance with the jab, and refuse to let the young powerhouse get comfortable. But Tyson kept coming. Round after round, Tyson closed the distance, attacked the body, pressured Ribalta against the ropes, and slowly took away the space his opponent needed. Ribalta refused to fold and continued fighting through the pressure, but the pace and power of Tyson became increasingly difficult to withstand. The fight went into the tenth round before the referee stepped in and stopped the action with 1:37 remaining. Mike Tyson won by TKO. But the ending created another question: was the stoppage too early? One commentator in the broadcast argued that Ribalta had already survived similar punishment and might have been able to continue. This is the story behind Mike Tyson vs José Ribalta — a fight about pressure, distance, endurance, and the terrifying early rise of one of boxing’s most famous heavyweights. #MikeTyson #Boxing #HeavyweightBoxing This documentary is a dramatized narration built on the available source material; some atmosphere and framing are reconstructed for storytelling purposes.
