Could have been better but it's just bad movie making. The first hour should have been 30 minutes shorter, what a drag. It is a 90 minutes movie max... dragged into a 120 min film Cinematography is 'small' no big views, no impact, camera/scenes always fill small, cheap views, the whole film looks and feels small, no visual reason to justify a big screen. Camera views feel amateurish. If you can get past the first 60 minutes (which holds enough evidence to demote director and whomever is responsible for the camera and overall production to novice college year-one wannabe student) things start to get a bit more interesting. Protagonists are good. Movie making was cheap and uninspired
4.5 of 10. While much better than anything in the Twilight series, that unfortunately doesn't make it an average film or a great vampire film. It is an interesting idea and it seems director Neil Jordan along with the actresses did what they could to give it a distinctive look and feel. For those looking for modern vampire stories, the best thing you can do for now is the True Blood cable TV series or go back to the films Interview with a Vampire (1994), Let the Right One In (2008), and Deadgirl (2008), maybe even Dark Shadows (2012). After getting off to a great start, the film becomes more of a series of clichés with only the new way of vampire creation and acting to make it tolerable.
